长期以来,我国的一些教科书在阐述明代中后期的对外贸易主要港口时总是列举广州、宁波,泉州和福州。如人民教育出版社出版的现行中学课本《中国历史》第二册就是这样提的。其它诸如部分大专院校的教科书和一些历史知识普及读物也只是提及以上四个港口,而忽略了明代中后期我国东南地区的另一个海外交通贸易中心——漳州月港。其实,在我国海外交通史贸易史上,明代漳州月港的地位是十分突出的,甚至比泉州港、福州港还来得重要。为说明这一问题,有必要对广州、宁波、泉州、福州和漳州等港口
