鄂西土家族、苗族自治州全境为大山区,气侯特点是云雾多、日照少、雨量充沛。主要粮食作物有苞谷、洋芋、红苕、稻谷、豆类等。全州土家族人口107万。1983年3月～12月,我们对4所幼儿园、8所中小学的1434名土家族儿童和学生进行了牙(牙合)畸形的调查,报告如下:
Tujia and Miao autonomous prefectures in western Hubei are all large mountainous areas.
