People once believed that although Southeast Asian Chinese had made successful business development and had played a pioneering role in the development of the mining industry and plantation economy, they were not like to be entrepreneurs, just like the people in China who are related to the mainland. It is said that due to the inhibition of Confucianism and the limited size of the traditional family businesses (not to mention their limited resilience), it is difficult for them to easily grasp the benefits of corporate organization and modern management. Even if there were exceptions such as the “Fang Yuen” or the “Jianyuan” of Huang Zhonghan, the group company was only enough to explain the general situation. However, following the astonishing success of Nanyang Chinese people since the late 1960s, this view has now changed.
