Patients with type 1 diabetes who are hypothesized to have concurrent kidney disease may be predisposed to kidney disease due to an overly genetic predisposition to TGF-β1. To test this hypothesis, the authors investigated the secretion of TGF-β1 from peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus with or without concurrent renal disease. Methods A total of 52 cases were studied. According to the urinary albumin excretion rates of the three urinalysis collected on the eve of the study, the patients were divided into three groups.
