Except for eating, the animals gathering together have another important aim, that is breeding. the sea is too vast, it’s too difficult to find a mate if living separately. Animals gather together in the breeding season, as having a grand blind date meeting. They will have more chances to meet their favorite mates. Meanwhile, the cluster life also make the exchange of genes more various, which is good for keeping the genetic diversity within species.
Salmons,
walk while love
The salmons live in the cool waters of the north Pacific at ordinary times, feeding on small crustaceans and small fishes. When they grow for 3 to 4 years in the sea, their remote memories recorded in the genes are started. In summer and autumn, they gather at the estuary from the sea, swim upstream into the water, and start the magnificent breeding migration. For the red salmons of the north Pacific, they take off the silver clothes as in the sea after entering the fresh water, and become red of the entire body, presenting that they are totally mature.
When swimming upstream, they spare no effort to swim forward, even are able to climb across the waterfall of meters high——you should know that they don’t eat in the fresh water, what supports them is entirely the energy stormed as in the sea. They finally arrive at the upstream, the sandy spawning of gentle water. After accomplishing the main affair, the fishes’ lives end. Their descendants will swim back into the sea after hatching, repeating the way of their ancestors.
