On February 19, 2002, nine well-known AV equipment manufacturing companies (9C) in Japan, Europe and South Korea reached an agreement on the Blu-ray Disc, the basic specification for a new generation of high-capacity optical discs using blue laser as a light source . In June 2002, specifications manuals and license contracts were released to equipment manufacturers and media manufacturers who are interested in signing licensing contracts.
