Objective To observe the identification of patients with dementia without Parkinson’s disease (PD) through event-related potentials (ERP), and to determine whether there is any impairment of cognitive ability between familiar and unfamiliar names, and the correlation between ERP changes and cognitive impairment. Methods The EMS32-guided electroencephalogram topography machine and its processing system were used. The familiar and unfamiliar names were used as the task of inducing ERP. The changes of the event-related potential P300 wave group in 32 PD patients were observed. Results (1) The difference of P3 amplitude induced by familiar names and unfamiliar names in PD patients was significantly smaller than that in control subjects (P <0.05). (2) The N2, P3 latency and MMSE (P <0.01). MMSE score of 24 to 26 minutes in patients with PD compared with the normal control, N2, P3 latency was significantly longer (familiar with: P <0.01; P <0.01; not familiar with: P < 0.01; P <0.01), but there was no significant difference between P3 amplitude and normal control (P> 0.05). Conclusion The cognitive ability of nondementia PD patients to recognize familiar names is decreased. The prolongation of event-related potentials may reflect the mild cognitive impairment in patients with PD, and is related to the degree of impairment.
