历史拥有人类文明的传统,既导演、又制约着人类走向更高阶段的文明.历史画则是传递人文精神内质的最佳形象媒体.就中华民族而言,这种人文精神是维系民族延续的根基,具有无比的凝聚力,也正是凝聚力中潜隐着的人文精神保证了我们民族的兴旺与发达.目前,历史画的萎缩,不全在于其商品价值实现的困难,也不全在于它创作的难度,而在于潜隐在画坛喧哗背后的人文精神的衰微、变异.深层危机已明显向画坛、向社会示警,因此,历史画的创作,不仅需要社会广泛的关怀和扶持,更要画家努力开拓的敬业精神.历史画创作,绝难信马游缰、随意挥洒,过程极为艰难,甚至很痛苦,它存在着许多与之俱来的难点.在此我把对《望故国》创作过程的陈述,权作一次历史画创作实践的探索.
