Dormancy is the phenomenon of temporary stagnation of the growth of an entire or part of a plant (an ornamental organ) and is a self-protective biological characteristic that plants resist the adverse natural environment. Plant dormancy caused by environmental conditions unfavorable to growth is usually referred to as forced dormancy.
