农垦五十八号是一个水稻高产良种,1964年我市由江苏省江宁县引进试种,全市共种植二千一百多亩,一般亩产在七百至八百斤左右,比本地单季晚稻麻壳秈增产20—50%,高的亩产达一千斤以上。如卜塘公社黄庄生产队试种的三点四亩,平均亩产八百零一斤,比四点五亩麻壳秈亩产五百八十七点三斤,增产36.4%;上庄生产队共种十八亩,平均亩产八百二十九斤,其中青年试验田一点四亩,平均亩产九百六十四点三斤。合罗公社楊桥三队试种十点三二亩,平均亩产九百五十九点四斤,比历年单季晚稻最高亩产六百斤增产60%,其中一块样板田四点六五亩,平均亩产达一千零六十六点二斤;此外,卜塘公社宋庄生产队作双季连作晚稻栽培的一点五亩,两季平均亩产一千一百六十六点六斤,其中农垦五十八号亩产五百六十六点六斤,在相同的条件下,比小红稻亩产四百四十四斤,增产25.6%。1964年,我们对这个品种的栽培技术作了调查,现分述如下。
