On March 11, 2011, a huge water wall advanced into the Miyako area in northeastern Iwate Prefecture in Japan, and an earthquake about 800 miles (129 km) east of Sendai in Japan triggered a massive tsunami that completely destroyed the eastern part of the island Many cities along the coast.
