全国解放初,毛泽东曾向北京文史馆推荐过几个人,均未被录取。后来,又有人求毛泽东为照顾柳直荀烈士的遗孀李淑一的生活,将她推荐给该馆。毛泽东只好交待秘书说: “文史馆资格颇严,未便再荐。” 周恩来在南开学校的老同学黄春谷,后来在檀香山经营杂货店,旅游到北京写信问候他。他当时已遵医嘱尽量减少外事活动,却抱病会见了黄氏夫妇。对此,周恩来说:
