Editor’s Note: In January 1999, at the invitation of Professor Pu Shan, Professor Klein, a famous American economist and Nobel Prize laureate, went to the Institute of World Economics and Politics of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. The topics discussed are quite broad, covering the knowledge economy, several issues in the U.S. economy, the outlook for the euro and the reform of the international monetary system. Professor Klein, already nearly eighty years old, has a quick thinking and a clear point of view.
