In the narrative poem “Newport Jewish Cemetery,” Romantic poet Longfellow describes the cemetery of the Jewish nation in the United States as a metaphysical - “heteropian” in space and time. In building this alien space, Longfellow broke the logical connection between time and space and placed the fate of Jews in different cultures such as present, past and future in the same cultural imagination. This article tries to use the modern theory of space narration to analyze the space of “heteropost” constructed by this poem in order to reveal how the American Jews are alienated to American culture step by step.
