Objective: To study the effect of partial hepatectomy (PH) on the growth of rat hepatoma model and to explore its possible mechanism. METHODS: After rat hepatoma model was established, different proportions of partial hepatectomy were performed to observe the changes of tumor growth. The changes of cellular and humoral immune functions and immunosuppressive factors were detected to explore possible mechanisms. RESULTS: After partial hepatectomy, the inoculated tumors accelerated significantly as the proportion of hepatic resection increased, and the degree of inhibition of cellular immune function aggravated. Serum sIL-2R, TGF-beta, and IL-10 in the hepatectomy group were early in the surgery. There was a significant difference from the control group. Conclusion: PH can stimulate the growth of tumor inoculation, which may be related to the suppression of immune function after PH, abnormal secretion of cytokines caused by liver regeneration and so on.
