输入是语言习得的必要条件。广大英语学习者在阅读西方新闻报道时,如果对西方修辞不甚了了,或如果不想费力去探究西方新闻报道文本中隐含的修辞意图,就容易对一些事件的真实情况产生误解或偏见,甚至被误导。以美国主流媒体《纽约时报》对中国60周年国庆报道为例,从西方修辞学的角度解读其新闻语篇在对中国国庆盛况进行报道的同时,借此契机展开对中国的经济、政治、民生等问题进行相关性报道。广大英语学习者应该借此理解和揭示西方新闻报道话语或语篇中的含而不露的修辞策略的应用,避免误入西方新闻修辞者设下的“修辞误区”。
