上海体育馆是在无产阶级文化大革命取得伟大胜利后,在毛主席革命路线指引下,兴建的一座大型公共建筑。它的建成将能更好地贯彻毛主席关于“发展体育运动,增强人民体质”的指示,为国际体育友好往来和举行大型政治集会提供良好场所。 这项工程的设计和建设是在各级领导亲切关怀下进行的。由上海市建工局第八建筑公司、上海机械施工公司等施工单位的工人老师傅、上海市体育馆筹建组和我院设计人员组成了三结合设计小组,进行现场设计和配合施工。根据
