我国广播电视大学的诞生和发展,是邓小平教育思想的直接产物。1978年2月邓小平同志亲自批准成立面向全国的广播电视大学,并在同年4月全国教育工作会议上指出:要制订加速发展电视、广播等现代化教育手段的措施,这是多快好省发展教育事业的重要途径,必须引起充分的重视。16年来,在邓小平教育思想指引下,我国广播电视大学取得了丰硕的成果。 上海电视大学作为国内最早创建和最早复办的开放性大学之一,在上海加快建设世界一流城市的新形势下,一定要抓住机遇,有所作为,以邓小平同志关于教育要“三个面向”的指示为战略指导思想,构划从现在起到2000年的改革发展战略目标,力争在本世纪末办成上海市现代远距离教育的教学中心、研究中心和视听教材制作中心。
