Norfolk Southern Railway Corporation of the United States held its first 1500 hp battery shunt using the latest alternative fuel-powered locomotive technology at its Juniata Locomotive Repair Shop (located in Altoona, PA) on September 28, 2009 Locomotive prototype (NS999, Figure 1) was completed. The NS999 locomotive is a pure electric locomotive that uses an energy storage system consisting of 1080 12V lead-acid batteries to full
