大事记是按时间顺序简要地记载一个机关(或地区)在一定历史时期发生的重大事件的书面材料。它的内容主要由事件的时间和事件的内容两部分组成。在编制大事记时,我们大都采用“回头编”的方法,即若干年后,回过头来,查阅档案资料进行编制。由于这种方法是事后编写,势必花费一定的人力、财力和时间,同时,由于档案资料的不足,有些大事件难以真实地、确切地记载下来,影响到编大事记的质量。笔者认为编大事记要改变这样的方法,采用流水记事法——也就是设立每日记事台卡,确定一名记事人员,把每天本机关发生的事情可详可略地记录下来,若干年后,汇集起来,加以科学分类、系统整理,即可成为一部大事记。这样做有以下几方面的好处:
