May 1, 2000 is the first ever “China Tourism Festival”, probably very accurate. During the seven-day holiday, more than 46 million people traveled overseas. Its grand occasion exceeded that of the Spring Festival. In the spring of 2000, the number of people leaving the country was only 40 million. This seven-day tourist spending, up to 181 billion yuan. And such grand occasion I am afraid in any country in the world are hard to find, really unique in the world. No one ever imagined that the Chinese people would have such a great enthusiasm for tourism erupting so suddenly that China’s tourism industry would panic and could not cope with it. After the “51”, finally someone who sighed back with a sigh, some popular vowed: next year, “51”, no travel!
