How much water
should we drink for
the most benefit?
People need about 2500 milliliters of water one day to make up the lost water from skin evaporation, breathe, excrement, urination and other physiological activities. About 300 milliliters of water are from the water of metabolism, others are from water of food and drink.
According to the dietary guidelines of our country, it’s most suitable to drink 6 to 8 cups of water everyday if one doesn’t sweat too much and the humidity is appropriate. One cup means one disposable paper cup, about 200 milliliters of capacity.
The above-mentioned water doesn’t include water in the food. For instance, fruits and vegetables are all rich in water, the creation of rice and steamed bun are also added in water. The water content of vegetables is more than 90%, every 250 grams of fruits contains about 200 milliliters of water. The water content of rice is about 65%, so 300 grams of rice can provide about 200 milliliters of water. Fresh meat, fish and shrimp each contains 70% of water, the milk contains 87%, so 100 grams of fish and a cup of milk will provide more than milliliters of water. Adding all these up, you can get about 1000 milliliters of water. Now that you have already got 1300 milliliters of water from your body and food, the other 1200 milliliters of water, which amounts to 6 cups of water, should be gained from the liquid drinks. That’s why we are recommended to drink 6 to 8 cups of water.
Why feeling very thirsty?
Of course, the number of cups is not changeless. In many cases, you should adjust the amount of water you drink. For example , if you intake too much sodium, the kidney should drain the redundant sodium out, which needs a lot of water accompanied. In a metaphor maybe not appropriate, the salt is a natural preservative, it has cytotoxity when the concentration is high, so the bacteria in salt pickles can be restrained. However, the high concentration of salt is harmful to human cells including the kidney cells. The kidney cannot drain strong brine out, it needs a lot of water to dilute the salt. But the burden of kidney will be greatly increased, so the nephrotics must have a strict control of salt intake.
