读一本好书,首先读其前言导语常常会有意外的收获,读者往往可以从中取得一个阅读视角上的制高点,从而在阅读全书或特意选读其中一部分时有一个可以参照的背景,更好地理解其妙旨何在。如果是读学术著作,这样做就更加重要了,因为给学术著作撰写前言导语的一般都是同专业中比较有影响的人物,甚至是该领域的重要领袖。以新近出版的《结构功能语言学》(钱军著,吉林教育出版社,1998)为例,为这部首次在中国全面介绍布拉格语言学派的重要学术精华撰写序言的,就都是当今世界承袭、发扬布拉格学派语言学传统的主要代表或一流专家。读这样的序言,又何乐而不为呢?然而,遗憾的是,虽然该著作三篇英文序言都不乏大家风范,但中文翻译读来却不尽如意,也与著者写书的犀利笔锋形成了明显的对照,有些地方显然值得商榷或还可以改进。在此,笔者按照三篇序言的顺序
