Experimental animal models of Hepatitis A virus (HAV) infection are still limited to non-human primates. Although such models are predisposed and manifest signs of acute hepatitis, they are expensive. To expand the model system for HAV infection, the authors studied the potential for HAV to grow in the mouse passage cell line L929.
