Objective: To investigate the contents of trace elements iron and zinc in normal cadaver brain tissue. Methods: The contents of trace elements iron and zinc in 301 wet tissue samples were dissected in 12 defined regions of 14 normal cadaver tissues by atomic absorption spectrometry. Results: The average iron content in gray matter was (8765 ± 1540) ppm, which was significantly higher than that in white matter (4939 ± 980) ppm, P <001. The average zinc content in gray matter was (10206 ± 682) ppm, which showed no significant difference from that of white matter (9846 ± 381) ppm, P> 005. Iron content increases with age. In the left and right hemispheres corresponding brain areas, iron, zinc content has a very significant positive correlation. Different parts of brain tissue iron content vary greatly, while the zinc content difference is not big. CONCLUSION: The results obtained can be regarded as the normal range of estimation, and provide reference data for studying the relationship between iron and zinc contents of human nervous system and nervous system diseases.
