抗战末期、胜利前夕,钱钟书和我在宋淇先生家初次会见傅雷和朱梅馥夫妇。我们和傅雷家住得很近,晚饭后经常到他家去夜谈。那时候知识分子在沦陷的上海,日子不好过,真不知“长夜漫漫何时旦”。但我们还年轻,有的是希望和信心,只待熬过黎明前的黑暗,就想看到云开日出。我们和其他朋友聚在傅雷家朴素幽雅的客厅里各抒己见,也好比开开窗子,通通空气,破一破日常生活里的沉闷苦恼。到如今,每回顾那一段灰黯的岁月,就会记起傅雷家的夜谈。
