Khodorkovsky, who was voted Russia’s richest man by Forbes for two years in a row, just turned 40 this year. Khodorkovsky has been paying for both the left-wing opposition in the State Duma and the Russian opposition, the right-wing coalition and the Yablo Group. Russia’s December Duma election is somewhat special because the parliamentary majority after the general election may set itself up instead of the previous presidential appointment. According to Russian commentators, Khodorkovsky is likely to want to form the majority that he can manipulate within the parliament, and then “lawfully” nominate himself as prime minister to disperse the power of the president.
