4月14日7时49分,青海省玉树藏族自治州玉树县发生7.1级地震,给当地人民群众生命财产造成严重损失。地震发生后,党中央、国务院高度重视。正在国外访问的中共中央总书记、国家主席、中央军委主席胡锦涛推迟对委内瑞拉和智利访问,提前回国,于4月18日前往青海省玉树地震灾区,看望慰问灾区干部群众,实地指导抗震救灾工作。中共中央政治局常委、国务院总理温家宝推迟原定于4月22日至25日对文莱、印尼和缅甸的正式访问,于4月15日18时许乘专机抵达青海玉树巴塘机场。随即乘车前往地震灾区,察看灾情,看望慰问灾区群众,指导抗震救灾工作。
