《马氏文通》是中国第一部有系统的完整的汉语语法学著作。从句子的句法、语义、语用三个平面分析，《文通》中的起词是一个糅合主语、施事、话题的句子结构成分概念。马氏分析句子的起词，既重视语义，也结合句法标准，并注意语用因素。《文通》对句子的句法结构、语义结构、语用结构的认识是混一的，但在具体分析句子起词的过程中，能够区别情况，在句法或语义或语用上有不同的侧重，从而揭示了汉语句子结构的一些特点
Ma Shi Wen Tong is the first systematic and complete Chinese grammar book in China. From the syntactic, semantic, pragmatic three-plane analysis of the sentence, the wording in “Wutong” is a concept of syntactic structure that combines the subject, the affair and the topic.
