从一般意义上说,中国文化的正宗是儒家文化,而儒家文化由于其与现实的贴近,更为注重人的乡土意识与其入世情怀的关系。正如《周易·系辞上》所云:“乐天知命,故不能忧;安土敦乎仁,故能爱。”《礼记·哀公问》作了进一步阐发,云:“不能爱人,不能有其身;不能有其身,不能安土;不能安土,不能乐天;不能乐天,不能成其身。”这里的“土”即指乡土,人们生于斯、长于斯,与斯有着千丝万缕、难以割舍的联系。后世将这种浓郁的乡土意识称之为儒家之教。儒家的乡土之教表现出中国这个农业民族的乡土情结古已有之。受儒家乡土观念的规范和影响,中国人民的确形成了比世界上任何一个民族都执著、强烈而又深沉的乡土情结。这种浓浓的乡土情结在作家那里,就会不自觉地在其创作的作品中流露出来。尤其是东北作家的小品,对东北人的生活和东北人的性格表现得更为直接。乡土情结在东北小品中主要从两个方面显现出来:一是来自题材的选择;二是来自语言风格。我们认为,“乡土情结”的形成,从历史文化背景上分析,有如下一些特征:
