Here we will introduce and discuss in more detail the elasto-plastic instability problem of elliptical shell. This problem is more realistic than the elasto-plastic instability of circular tubes, since most oil casings have ovality. There is no stability problem in the sense of elastic instability of elliptical shell. Because it is initially subjected to an external load, bending stresses occur immediately on each section.
