黄石市地处长江南岸,是我国中部地区重要的老工业基地和原材料工业城市,面临如何推进传统产业改造、实现传统产业升级、提高自主创新能力这一重大课题,黄石深刻感受到既要注重企业设备升级、工艺更新实其形,又要通过信息化改造提高管理水平、增强创新能力铸其魂是老工业基地振兴发展不可或缺的,探索并走出了一条具有黄石特色的制造业信息化道路。黄石市先后建设了以机电、冶金、建材、生物医药、纺织服装为主40家示范企业,并组织实施了一批重大示范项目。这种以信息化带动工业化工程的全面实施,为黄石老工业基地铸就了新的“灵魂”,为黄石市经济社会全面振兴发展发挥了重要的支撑作用,使“十五”时期成为黄石改革开放以来黄石市经济社会发展速度最快、效益最好、城乡居民得到实惠较多的时期,主要经济指标基本实现五年翻一番。
