白玉霜(1907—1942)是著名评剧表演艺术家,“白派”艺术创始人。 白玉霜原名李桂珍,又名李慧敏。河北栾县古治人,生于天津。父亲李景春是个莲花落子艺人,艺名“粉莲花”。白玉霜11岁时,父亲带她拜一位姓刘的唱大鼓的为师。当时在梨园中流行着这样一句话:“唱好了进戏院子,唱不好了下窑子!”小桂珍学艺深得师傅的喜爱,师傅赶堂会的时候总愿意带她同去。师傅的大段子之前,都要先给她安排个小段子。她那小段子启板不久,就会把喧哗的人声压住,让人们都屏声静气。她的声音甜,字眼清,就像林中的小溪潺潺地从人们心田中流过。她唱一段人们不满足,唱两段也听不够。可是她会的段子不多,推辞不过,只好从头再唱一遍,人们对于她的重唱也很爱听,脸上都露出怜爱多于欣赏的微笑。
