Objective To investigate the actual contents of trace elements iron, zinc, copper, selenium and chromium in 180 cases of diabetic patients. Methods The elbow venous blood samples were collected from patients and controls, respectively. After centrifugation, all the serum samples were collected and determined by plasma emission spectrometer. Results The contents of iron, zinc, copper, selenium and chromium in the serum of diabetic patients were higher than those of the control group. The content of iron, copper and selenium in the former increased, while the contents of zinc and chromium decreased in the former. Conclusion To maintain the normal content of various elements and the ratio of the body content of patients with excessive or too low elements should be taken to balance the measures.
