鄱阳湖是我国最早实施禁港休渔的湖区之一。湖区周边县市依法禁港休渔已坚持了１６年。早在１９８６年，江西省政府就颁布了专门的法令，规定每年的３月２０日至６月２０日为休渔期，１０月１０日至次年的４月１０日为禁港期。整个鄱阳湖区有６０余万亩的主要经济鱼类产卵繁殖
