Today, more and more practitioners in the fields of design and art begin to get involved in the current technological trends and create new scientific and technological means to reflect on social issues, ecology, gender and politics, including the technology itself. The norm for many designers and artists is to think about how technology can be made easier, sexy, and affordable. They are good at using a variety of new technologies to create a virtual object and give it a background and narrative. The object can be either functional or non-functional. Its purpose is not to show off, but to think and speculate on a problem. The “speculative design” is to “jargonize” this behavior, and the output of such an approach is more than just one thing, it is biased towards one idea. For them, design means to speculate on the many possibilities for the future. This essay provides readers with an understanding of this area by illustrating the speculative design and the work of the artists associated with it, so that viewers can interpret the contemporary new media works more accurately.
