Oral polio vaccine (OPV) is one of the poorest thermal stabilizers in childhood vaccines. Two mechanisms of inactivation are related to the thermal stability of the vaccine: degeneration of the viral nucleocapsid and the degradation of viral RNA in the nucleocapsid.
