Linux maker Caldera Systems said in August that it had agreed to buy two SCO subsidiaries and formed a new company. Caldera said the new company to be formed will acquire the assets of SCO’s server software and specialty services division and will have exclusive distribution rights over the SCO OpenServer product line. Analysts pointed out that Caldera’s acquisition proclaimed the end of the Unix independence era.
