桃源县八公桥乡,利用紫色土田塍(田间的土埂子)全量磷、钾,钙元素含量高的特点,于1983年在紫色土上种蚕豆1,200多亩,其中紫色土的田塍上种蚕豆520亩,平均亩产100多斤,高的达150多斤。田塍种蚕豆的好处,一是不与其它作物争时、争地;二是能改良土壤,充分利用地力;三是通风透光,沥水无渍害;四是操作容易,管理方便;五是投资少,收效大。一般每亩净田塍面积种蚕豆,从播种到收获,只需工3—4个,包括豆种在内,每亩只需成本费5—6元,可获得35—40元的产值,每个劳动日可获8—10元的纯收入。现将栽培技术介绍如下:
