SPIW的全称是英文“特种用途单兵武器”(Special Purpose lndividual Weapon)的缩写,其是美国1950~1960年代提出的一揽子“齐射计划”的一个分支,目的是大幅度增加美国陆军轻武器的命中率和杀伤效果。但是SPIW的结构极其复杂,最终未能发展成为一种可用于实战的武器系统,成为美国轻武器大跃进时代的一个代价高昂的失败产物。本刊分三部分对SPIW的来龙去脉做一详尽介绍。第一部分主要呈现的是SPIW的起源——
The full name of the SPIW is an acronym for English “Special Purpose Personal Weapon”, a branch of the United States’ proposal for a “salvo project” proposed by the United States from the 1950s to the 1960s with the aim of drastically increasing the U.S. Army Light Weapons hit rate and killing effect. However, the structure of SPIW is extremely complex and ultimately fails to develop into a combatable weapon system that has become a costly failure of the Great Leap Forward of the United States.
