Among American residents, injury is an important cause of morbidity. Some injuries are related to participating in sports, and some sports can cause serious eye damage or even blindness. In 1978, more than 35,000 eye injuries (12% of all reported eye injuries) were associated with sports and recreational equipment. Injuries caused by the ten most dangerous sports have increased 58% since 1973. It is believed that 90% of them could have been prevented if proper eye protection was adopted. Particularly unfortunate is that about one third of all eye injuries related to exercise and recreation are children aged 5 to 14 years old. Children today estimated to have a life expectancy of about 75 years of age will suffer the loss of vision over the long term. What should be done to study and prevent this disabling injury? To prevent injury to athletes requires a structured approach, the application of the correct epidemiological principles and research methods. In a particular exercise or activity occurred in the formation of excessive damage the clinical impression should be from the disease
