张元济(1867-1959年),浙江海盐人,字筱斋,号菊生,室名涉园。著名出版家、藏书家、版本目录学家。清光绪十八年(1892年)进士。由庶吉士改刑部主事,充总理衙门章京,因参加维新变法活动被革职。光绪二十五年(1899年)主持南洋公学译书院。光绪二十八年(1902年)正式进入商务印书馆,次年出任编译所所长。民国四年(1915年)出任商务印书馆经理,1920年任监理,1926年退休后出任商务印书馆董事长。解放后当选全国人大代表,上海文史馆馆长。
