The famous American popular culture theorist John Fiske takes media text as the carrier, media audience as the core, media experience as its purpose, goes beyond the traditional elitism and pessimism attitude, advocates and glorifies popular culture’s creativity, initiative and resistance And even defend the plain text and the barrenness of the mass text, emphasizing that the public’s cognition is the rejection and boycott of the modern aesthetic hegemony. Fiske’s uncritical cultural populism, though it has some significance for the progress, but its excessive clumsyness to the public taste will inevitably lead to the dilemma of elegant art and the lack of aesthetic value, causing the general public to gradually lose their awareness of elite culture and aesthetic Art appreciation. Therefore, under the contemporary aesthetics context, it is necessary to re-examine Fisker’s rejection of the taste judgment and re-evaluate the value and function of aesthetic education.
