In 2003, in reference to the practice of the International Art Biennale, we explored the establishment of a new biennial form with Chinese characteristics. The first Beijing Biennale, with its theme of “Innovation: Contemporaryity and Regionalism”, promoted the exchange of artists from all over the world and left a warm memory for everyone. Artists hope that the Beijing Biennale in the future will have a more fascinating pattern , Hoping that Beijing will become a trusted new world art center. The first Beijing International Fine Art Biennale, holding high the banner of innovation, on the other hand, restricted the basic categories of artworks to painting and sculpture. The organizers argue that while new art styles such as new media have expanded the possibilities of contemporary art, this does not mean that traditional forms of painting and sculpture have lost the space for their own innovation. The crowded elite of art from all five continents made the first Beijing Biennale unique. The second Beijing Biennale still contains paintings and sculptures as its contents, including some appropriate extensions within the forms of painting and sculpture.
