重商主义是英国对其殖民地采取的一贯政策。英国出于对本国经济保护和促进的目的在北美殖民地采取重商主义政策,对北美殖民地的制造业等的发展进行限制。历来各国学者对重商主义的评价不一,对在北美殖民地这一政策所产生的影响也褒贬不同。重商主义政策对北美殖民地确实产生了一定的消极影响,但是否真的如同前人学者所论述的消极影响那么深又是值得商榷的。
Mercantilism is the consistent British policy on its colonies. The United Kingdom adopted a mercantilist policy for the protection and promotion of its economy in North American colonies and imposed restrictions on the development of manufacturing industries in the North American colonies. Historically, scholars in all countries have evaluated mercantilism in different ways, and also have different opinions on the impact of this policy in the North American colonies. Mercantilist policies did have some negative impact on the colonies in North America, but it is debatable whether they are really so negative as discussed by previous scholars.
