Objective To study the relationship between the expression of midkine (MK) and VEGF and the clinicopathological features in colorectal cancer. Methods Immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of MK and VEGF in 49 cases of rectal cancer tissues and 20 cases of colorectal cancer adjacent tissues. Results The expressions of MK and VEGF in colorectal cancer tissues were significantly higher than those in adjacent normal tissues (P <0.05). The expressions of MK and VEGF in colorectal cancer tissues were positively correlated with the depth of invasion, lymph node metastasis and Dukes’ staging (P <0.05) There was a positive correlation between MK and VEGF expression (P <0.05). Conclusion The expression of MK and VEGF in colorectal cancer tissues is significantly higher than that in adjacent non-cancerous tissues. Colorectal cancer can promote the development of colorectal cancer and can be used as a prognostic indicator of colorectal cancer prognosis.
