A malignant tumor that is hyperplastic by B-cell clones with surface markers characteristic of normal lymphocytes. The immunoglobulin specific to this lymphoma clone is limited to a particular variable region (idiotype) for a particular case and can be considered as a tumor specific marker that distinguishes it from normal cells. It has been demonstrated that anti-idiotypic antibodies can be used to monitor B-cell tumors and to study the biological properties of such tumors.
