Since the 1990s, the vigorous development of the hi-tech industries represented by the network, communications and biochemistry has not only made the United States a decade-long economic boom, but has also created a brilliant and expanding myth of “new economy.” However, in the past year 2000, the U.S. economy, the home base of the “new economy,” saw signs of “rainy skies.” The Nasdaq market, where the “New Economy” enterprises are highly concentrated, is even more “unhealthy.” The Nasdaq Composite Index, which represents the “new economy” benchmark, suffered heavy losses, down 40% from the level at the end of 1999. The year 2000 turned out to be the worst year for the Nasdaq since it opened in 1971. What problems does the “new economy” have? What change will it take in the future? What should we think about the “new economy” in the future?
