Dr. Bernhard Thies, a seasoned standardization professional, former Chairman of the Board of Directors of DKE and CENELEC President, has engaged in standardization sector by decades and played a leading role in European and international standardization field. He met Peter Kellendonk by accident in 2012. They talked a lot about the status quo and existing problems of the Internet of Things and both agreed that a global language is urgently needed to help devices communicate with each other and realize smart connectivity. Dr. Thies recalled, “We thought that we need something like an initiative or association, then we talked to the CEOs of fifteen companies about the idea. They said to us, do it! Then we did it!” This is how the idea of the Initiative started.
