杜培武冤案的主角杜培武在接受记者采访时说,“想都没想过”一名警察也会遭受刑讯逼供。昆明市五华区人民检察院起诉书指控,当初办理杜培武的警察在昆明市公安局刑侦大队办公室,采取连续审讯不准睡觉、拳打脚踢或者指使、纵容其他办案人员对杜培武拳打脚踢,并用手铐将杜培武吊挂在防盗门窗上,然后反复抽垫凳子或拉拴在脚上的绳子,让其双脚悬空全身重量落在被铐的双手上。
